As I, Alistair, the founder of Second Chance Horse Rescue, reflect on my journey with horses, I realize it is a passion that has been into my life from an early age, raised in a family that have always been around horses.

My first experience with rescue began when I fostered a neglected horse, providing him with proper feed and care until he regained his strength. With help, I successfully placed him in a loving forever home. Witnessing the struggles faced by retired racehorses, many of whom are left without the care they deserve after their racing careers, ignited a passion in me to create a sanctuary where these horses could find safety, rehabilitation, and loving homes.

I recognized that after years of dedication and hard work on the racetrack, these horses often face uncertain futures, sometimes ending in neglect or slaughter. This reality fueled my commitment to make a difference in their lives.I envisioned a place where they could transition into new roles, enjoying life in green pastures rather than being abandoned or forgotten. With the support of passionate volunteers and the community, I established Second Chance Horse Rescue to not only rescue and rehabilitate these incredible animals but also to advocate for their welfare. Our mission is driven by compassion, dedication, and the belief that every horse deserves a loving home and a fulfilling life. Through our efforts, we aim to create a ripple effect, inspiring others to join the cause and help make a lasting impact in the world of equine rescue.
